International outsourcing as an instrument for efficiency growth in the Russian companies: the results of empirical research

Abstract:

This paper is devoted to the empirical estimation of how international outsourcing influence on the Russian companies’ efficiency. To estimate the international outsourcing index we follow Feenstra and Hanson (1996), calculating broad and narrow measure of this index. Estimating the database of 5398 Russian companies for 2005-2008, we find out sustainable statistical dependence between the international outsourcing indices and the effectiveness of Russian companies. Moreover we find out that applying international outsourcing leads to productivity increase for more effective firms in the industry, while the results for less productive firms are not sustainable.
