Abstract:
The paper concerns comparison of two interpretations of institutions — as an equilibria, and as a rules. Some internal troubles with first one are analyzed, and detailed logical reconstruction of second one is done. Particularly, different versions of a rule notion are studied, and the typology of enforcement mechanisms is discussed, including issue of enforcers’ incentives. Comparison shows that Institutions-as-Rules conception gives broader opportunities for empirical institutional analysis.
