Global Chains of Added Value in Terms of Digitalization of the Economy

Abstract:

The world economy has undergone significant structural changes related to active introduction of digital technologies into trade and production over the past decades. At the global level, the development of these technologies leads to the digitalization of all value creation stages: from the development and production process to its marketing, logistics and service. The aim of the study is to analyze the prospects of increasing the efficiency and participation of Russian companies in the global value chains at a time when digital technologies are developing. Based on the analysis of classical and modern approaches to define value added, the formation and development process of the value chains concept is considered. The paper assesses the participation of the Russian Federation in global value chains with the help of indices and databases of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), etc. The world trends of Industry 4.0 deployment and the digital transformation of companies on different sectors of the economy are analyzed. The paper describes digital technologies, which transform the process of value chains. The introduction of digital technologies process in Russian companies in different sectors is analyzed on the basis of analytical reports. In conclusion, the number of challenges to digital transformation of the Russian companies are identified and its’ solution will help to improve these companies’ position in the global value chains in the context of economy digitalization.
