Abstract:
This paper is dedicated to the problems of definition of the research object and the boundaries of the Arctic zone and the northern regions of the Russian Federation; due to the unclear definition of the borders, there are problems in the implementation of state social and economic policy in respect to these areas and conducting research, as well as the evolution of interpretations of these concepts. The author suggests considering the territory of the Russian North as an object of study within the statutory defined limits, and for the Arctic Zone — finding a compromise solution to their establishment and definition through governmental political decision at the federal level.
