Abstract:

The paper deals with the problem of bridging the technological gap between a catching-up country and developed countries. It is assumed that the basis of the solution to this problem lies in the formation and evolution of models of catching-up technology in the country. A model structure of catching-up technologies is proposed. Three main tasks are investigated to remedy this problem: (1) creation and active use of technological knowledge transfer channels; (2) development of enterprises’ absorption abilities relative to this knowledge; (3) active incorporation of national enterprises into global value-added chains. Solving the latter problem, in turn, implies taking into account the specifics of modern value-added chains from the standpoint of the use of opportunities for embedding national enterprises in the world economy and using the chains as a driver of innovative development. The problem of the transition to the development stage on the basis of individual innovations as soon as the evolutionary potential of the capturing up model for national enterprises is being exhausted is also studied. Obtained results help to elaborate economic policy measures aimed at bridging a technological gap of a developing country and developed countries.
