The relevance of Innovation Ecosystem is beyond doubt. The authors present a brief history of the concept’s emergence and identify six approaches to its understanding. Each approach reflects a certain stage of innovation ecosystem’s evolution. Against the background of highlighting the differences between the innovation ecosystem and other concepts, the authors demonstrate the main feature of all ecosystems — the coevolution of its participants throughout their interaction. The authors systematize the factors influencing the effective development of innovative ecosystems, and identify the «traps» accompanying the operationalization of this concept. The results of the study indicate that the «innovation ecosystem» is beginning to acquire both theoretical and practical significance, marking the formation of a new management paradigm at the mini-, meso- and macroeconomic levels of solving specific innovation and economic problems.
